Vintage French 18k Gold "Plus Qu'Hier Moins Que Demain" Love Pendant by A. Augis c.1950s Diamond & Synthetic Ruby

A beautiful and authentic example of French sentimental jewellery, this vintage 18k yellow gold pendant by A. Augis features the timeless inscription "+ qu'hier – que demain"  (more than yesterday, less than tomorrow) referencing one of the most iconic romantic motifs in French jewellery history.

The phrase originates from a 1907 poem by Rosemonde Gérard, written as a declaration of ever-growing love. It was Alphonse Augis, the celebrated Lyonnais jeweller, who first translated these words into gold, creating a pendant that became one of the most beloved and enduring pieces of French fine jewellery of the 20th century. This is the original Augis version and not one of the countless imitations that followed.

The design centres on the inscription in raised gold lettering on a sunburst engraved ground, framed above by a small diamond-set cross and below by two baguette cut synthetic rubies in a millegrain edged rectangular setting. The disc is finished with a clean bevelled mirror-polish rim, giving the piece an elegant, understated border that lets the inscription speak for itself.
