Antique French 18k Tricolour Gold Pendant with Pearl & Ruby, end 19th C. with Eagle Hallmark

A beautifully preserved antique French pendant dating to the early Third Republic period, featuring an elegant 18 karat tricolour gold braided border. This oval pendant is a fine example of bourgeois French bijouterie.

The centre features a pearl framed by two rubies set within a delicate lozenge of millegrain metalwork, evoking the sentimental romanticism characteristic of the era. This inner motif sits against a satin-finished gold oval, encircled by a beaded border.

In the sentimental language of 19th century French jewellery, the central pearl is a  symbole of purity and the beloved and is embraced by two rubies representing eternal love. This pendant was almost certainly made as a deeply personal gift for someone special.
